Chaos at the Yufune Jubilee: Dancing Spirits and a Sugar-Coated Siege!

September 10, 2024

The Wilds surrounding Yufune - After docking at Yufune Harbor, our band of rugged individualists set out for the prestigious academy, but something felt fundamentally unfree. Instead of heading into the city center, almost everyone was marching in the total opposite direction. Deva cornered a passerby to demand justice for this confusion and discovered that a massive five-year festival in a nearby forest was pulling the crowds away from their intended destinations. Such an opportunity for pure, unadulterated celebration was too much for any free spirit to pass up, so the crew decided to dive right into the festivities.

A Freedom-Filled Shopping Spree
The festival was a chaotic explosion of liberty and excitement, with stalls of all kinds lining the forest path leading to a grand temple. Between the food vendors, the heavy-duty weapon dealers, and the performers, the party found plenty of ways to exercise their right to enjoy themselves. Ace tried his luck selling his Electric Sapphire to an antiques dealer but couldn’t strike a deal that felt fair and balanced. Deva exercised his right to gear up with a Silver Javelin, while Selah went on a total shopping spree - grabbing banjos, drums, and tambourines for the whole squad. Mad Matt, ever the wild card, was torn between choosing a monkey or a parrot at the animal stall. Ultimately, he chose the monkey and outfitted it in its own tiny vest and pouch - because every creature deserves some tactical gear. Selah picked up a sphynx cat, opting for it over an adder that was eyeing Matt’s new monkey with far too much aggression. Meanwhile, Ace hit the blacksmith to fuse his rapier with the Electric Sapphire, imbuing it with enough shocking power to defend anyone's rights.

Whispers of Treachery and Restless Spirits
The high spirits were dampened when the party encountered a fortune teller, who warned them of an incoming threat to their peace. Some of her good luck talismans had begun granting bad luck instead, and she suspected the spirits - upset with how commercialized the festival had become - were staging an uprising. A nearby sugar artist named Momo shared these grim concerns - her delicate sugar sculptures of dragons, cranes, and tigers had started moving on their own accord. The party realized the spirits were revolting because the traditional values of the festival had been traded for mere profit. Determined to restore order and protect the peace, the party decided to hold a high-energy dance performance atop the temple grounds. They juggled, backflipped, and entertained the crowd with all the bravado they could muster, but their display was interrupted by three sudden bursts of blue energy shooting from the temple into the festival alley like cannon fire.

The Sugar Siege Begins!
As Ace was collecting his hard-earned tips from the crowd, screams erupted from Momo’s stall. Her sugar creations - now fully mobilized for battle - were terrorizing the innocent festival-goers! The party immediately sprang into action to defend the people. Mad Matt swiftly evacuated civilians toward the river, knowing that water is the ultimate equalizer against sugar-based invaders. Meanwhile, Ace, Mabel, Deva, and Selah engaged the animated figures, shattering their sugary shells with righteous fury. But as the first statue fell, a blue spirit emerged to continue the assault! The party soon realized these sugar statues were mere vessels for much more dangerous spirits. Things took a turn for the worse when flying talismacy, acting like unprovoked projectiles, began attaching themselves to the fighters. Selah, struck by one, found herself cursed with catastrophic bad luck, unable to land even a single decisive blow. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, the party managed to neutralize two of the spirits, leaving only one standing.

Capoeira: The Ultimate Defense?
As the final spirit began to falter, Selah had a stroke of tactical genius. Speaking in both Celestial and Demonic, she demanded to know why this unprovoked attack was happening. To her shock, the spirit revealed that the festival was originally meant to honor them, but had become far too focused on nothing but profit. Even more surprisingly, the spirit explained that the dance the party performed wasn’t enough - only Capoeira, the high-impact dance of kicks and combat, would truly appease the spirits. The spirit expressed frustration over its two fallen comrades, lamenting the long week ahead before they could return. Selah, respecting the spirit's honesty but recognizing the need for a final resolution, ended its suffering with one swift, decisive strike, sending it back to join its companions in peace.

A Sweet Victory and a Lesson for the Future
Before departing, the party made it clear to the festival organizers that if they wanted peace, they needed to restore Capoeira to the celebrations. Momo, immensely grateful for the party’s defense of the crowd, offered them a sugar statue of a tiger as a token of her gratitude. With a sweet reward in hand and the festival’s freedom secured, the party departed the forest and finally pushed onward toward the university.
