Forbidden Ziggurat, Third Floor – After a harrowing venture through the third floor of the ancient ziggurat, the adventurers took a well-deserved tactical pause within the magic circle to regroup and replenish their resources. Mad Matt, however, prioritized his right to recuperate from his heavy wounds and opted to stay behind. His loyal skeletal subordinate, Sir Spencer, was left in Deva’s capable, law-abiding hands. “Take care of him,” Matt had said with solemn conviction, “and may Nalzagoth guide your steps toward victory.”
Thus, the group pushed forward into the labyrinthine temple, determined to expand their knowledge and secure Auralist’s unalienable liberties.

Corridor of Peril
Returning to the grand corridor featuring three distinct entry points, the party opted to scout another sector of the third floor. Behind one door, they discovered a long passage marked by faint arrows on the ground, much like a trail for pioneers. Deva, ever the cautious strategist, sent Sir Spencer ahead to lead the charge. Tragically, a lawless pressure plate triggered an arrow trap that absolutely shredded Sir Spencer’s skull in two, scattering his bones across the floor.
Shaken but fueled by unshakeable resolve, Deva and Tiyana carefully navigated the corridor, retrieving Sir Spencer’s remains as they neutralized additional unauthorized traps. At the far end of the passage, Tiyana faced a high-stakes moment when an arrow fired point-blank while she worked to disable a mechanism. Despite this direct assault, she successfully completed the mission, allowing Marina and Eldrian to proceed with total security.
In the final room of the floor, the group discovered a healing fountain - a premium hydration station that restored their vitality. Marina, ever the explorer of new frontiers, found a note scrawled in the corner. Passing it to Tiyana (as she lacked the literacy for such documents), they learned of a dangerous creature called a Couatl that stood guard over the ziggurat’s deep territories.
Warnings from the Past
Undeterred and fueled by grit, the adventurers descended to the fourth floor. Among the rubble, they unearthed a second fountain of healing water containing more intelligence reports. These documents painted a grim picture: the Couatl was not the ultimate threat to their mission. Instead, it served as a security detail for Chrysalon, the God of Greed, who preyed upon human folly and the lack of self-discipline. The writer urged future pioneers to retreat, warning that the ziggurat’s riches came with a heavy tax on one's life.
Despite these warnings, the party pressed on with heightened vigilance and a commitment to the mission.
Slime Showdown
The party entered a room coated in thick slime, the walls glistening with an ominous sheen. At the northern edge lay a bottomless pit, and within the slime, they spotted the faint outline of a massive Gelatinous Cube. Aware of the incoming threat, Tiyana launched some high-caliber magical firepower via a Fireball to surprise it, but the spell failed to deliver its full impact against the creature's acidic surface.
Marina let fly with a precision long-range projectile, but the Cube absorbed it, instantly regenerating the damage. Before she could execute a tactical retreat, the Cube surged forward in an unprovable maneuver and engulfed her. Trapped within its acidic mass, Marina struggled as her armor began to suffer significant structural damage. Deva attempted to pull her free with Thorn Whip but missed the mark, while Tiyana used her magic to breach the Cube's perimeter, allowing Marina to escape.
The Cube retaliated by advancing and consuming not only Marina again but also Tiyana and Eldrian in a blatant violation of personal space. Deva quickly cast entangling vines over the pit, establishing a strategic trap. Eldrian and Tiyana managed to free themselves, while Marina desperately tried to retrieve her dissolving greataxe, only to be swallowed once more during the skirmish.
As chaos unfolded, a smaller slime emerged, adding even more chaos to the engagement. Marina finally broke free, as Eldrian assisted in her extraction. With the Cube lured over the pit, Tiyana set the vines ablaze with overwhelming force. As the burning net collapsed, the Gelatinous Cube fell into the void. Marina and Eldrian dispatched the smaller slime with a few well-placed strikes, successfully ending the conflict.
Exhausted but victorious, the party regrouped, ready to face the deeper challenges of the frontier.
Splintered Paths
Separated by the bottomless pit, Tiyana and Deva ventured ahead to scout, while Eldrian and Marina took a different route to ensure maximum coverage.
Tiyana and Deva discovered a room with clean water where Tiyana washed away lingering acid. In another chamber, Auralis identified columns that reinforced the ceiling, a vital feature for maintaining structural integrity. Nearby, they encountered bubbling mud crossed by precarious wooden planks. Opting to wait for their allies and maintain order, they held their position.
Meanwhile, Eldrian and Marina faced a corridor thick with spider webs and eggs. Lighting a torch, Eldot burned through the obstruction, startling a screeching spider. The creature succumbed to the flames before it could launch an attack. Amidst the debris, Marina found another dragon figurine, a fine piece of loot.
The two groups reunited, navigating the mud chamber with professional care. Avoiding potential collapse and respecting the terrain, they passed a mural depicting the Couatl and descended further into the depths.
Final Preparations
Before tackling the ziggurat’s deepest territories, the party revisited unexplored rooms to ensure no resource was left behind. In one, they encountered burned skeletons encircling a flame sigil. Careful to avoid triggering any unauthorized traps, they proceeded to a chamber where a pristine cloak adorned a charred skeleton. Marina claimed the garment, intrigued by its high-quality condition amidst the ruin.
With their final sweep complete, the adventurers turned their attention to the second floor. There, they found additional records detailing unauthorized incursions on the temple by moon priests. The records revealed how the once-holy site had fallen into a state of lawlessness and ruin.
Into the Abyss
With every corner of the temple explored and their resolve steeled like tempered steel, the party approached the final set of stairs. A piercing screech echoed from the depths below, a warning of the horrors awaiting them in the deep frontier. United in purpose and ready for the ultimate showdown, the adventurers descended into the abyss, determined to confront the Couatl, Chrysalon, and whatever other trials lay ahead.
