The theme for the 2024 Global Game Jam was "Make me Laugh." However, we found it rather challenging to come up with a game idea that incorporated this theme, as humour is notoriously difficult to perfect.
Initially, we considered creating another story-based game, much like we did with Murder at the Great Exhibition. However, we decided against it, as humour is quite subjective and there's a fair chance that not everyone would appreciate the same jokes as we do.
In the end, we opted to develop a game featuring some classic Tom-and-Jerry-style cartoonish antics.
The Game
The game features Average Jane, a factory worker who dons headphones and daydreams about dispatching her irritating coworkers in a variety of comical ways. The stage is set on a flying island in the sky, complete with two floating platforms and a rollercoaster train that periodically zooms across the screen.
Attacks
Press 1 for a claw attack with a bear trap!
Press 2 for a baseball strike using a stop sign!
Press 3 to summon a falling piano!
Press 4 to shoot a toy gun!
Press 5 to throw a pie!
Press 6 to flatten your enemies with a frying pan!
If you're using a controller, you'll need to employ a combination of directional input and face buttons to attack, much like in Smash Bros.
