Spooky Waters: The Crew’s Little Bit of Trouble with a Phantom Ship, Sorry About That, Eh?

April 29, 2025

Open Seas North of Arcachon – So sorry to interrupt, but with Clarence’s custom-flyer Flux Stirling Engine finally all sorted out on the Stolen Property after four days of rather meticulous work - sorry about the delay, eh? - the crew prepared to set sail north toward Camborne’s Rest and Tripoint. During this time, Clarence hired a new assistant named Ainz, an ambitious, if a bit overworked, mage. I am terribly sorry to say her enthusiasm went downhill quite fast when Clarence started giving her some rather impossible 28-hour shifts, eh? When she mentioned her criminal past and those necromantic studies - not that we judge, pardon me - Clarence got a bit upset and let her go on the spot. But don't you worry, Ainz was quite alright with just joining the crew instead, eh?

A Bit of a Spooky Situation, Eh?
Not long into our voyage, the Stolen Property encountered a ghostly vessel drifting silently through the waves - so sorry for the sudden fright, eh? The air went as still as a frozen pond, the ocean fell quite quiet, and a pale green silhouette of a ship pulled alongside ours, sailing unnaturally against the current, if you don't mind me saying.

The party boarded the spectral vessel, if it wasn't too much trouble. Selah climbed into the crow’s nest and confirmed the ship was riddled with damage but floating steadily, eh? Ainz opened the captain’s quarters and found a skeleton wearing a distinctive trarycorn hat - pardon me for pointing out the oddity. Mad Matt insisted on a captain-to-captain conversation and entered with her. Sitting at the piano, he played a haunting melody that summoned the ship’s spectral captain from his bones - Captain Camborne. The ghost seemed a bit confused and unaware of his own death, so sorry about that, eh? Screaming that the ship was sinking, he disappeared below deck.

Matt continued playing, sending his undead monkey, Sir Spencer, to track the ghost, if that’s alright with you. Meanwhile, Tiyana was just exploring the cabins when she accidentally disturbed two ghostly sailors playing a never-ending card game - so sorry for the interruption, eh? The ghosts chased her to the deck, where a bit of a bother broke out in the form of a battle.

Tiyana cast Magic Missiles, dispatching one of the spirits, though narrowly dodging the ghost’s spectral blade cost her some of her memories - she momentarily forgot her companions' names, and we felt terribly bad about that, eh? Ainz fired her own volley of missiles, injuring the second ghost. Selah, leaping down from the crow’s nest, drenched the remaining ghost in holy water, dissolving it instantly - very refreshing, eh?

Beneath the Decks
Ainz and Merlin later animated a nearby skeleton using necromancy, but its memories were a bit fractured, sorry about that. It spoke of human-like attackers long ago, but nothing of its own fate or the ship's demise, eh? On the middle deck, Selah discovered ghostly coins, which she tried to grab - only to have her hand pass right through them, how awkward, eh? One coin turned solid when she doused it in holy water, though the crew had no more left, so sorry!

Further exploration revealed crates and barrels, which Merlin cleared out with brute force - sorry if he was a bit too loud, eh? - unintentionally alerting whatever might have been hiding below. Ainz summoned a shadow panther named Kitty to scout, but even her summon found nothing of value, pardon me. A large hole in the floor offered a view of the lowest deck - and the spectral form of Captain Camborne, furiously trying to bail out imaginary water, which was quite a sight, eh?

Tiyana tried speaking to him, but the ghost captain was a bit too absorbed in reliving his last moments, so sorry. When Matt finally joined him, he began mimicking Camborne’s motions, eh? Suddenly, a ghostly kraken tentacle burst through the hull - a memory or a hallucination, no one could say for sure, pardon me.

When Matt asked Camborne if he was the same man for whom Camborne’s Rest was named, the ghost seemed a bit confused, eh? He remembered only "Mirror Island" - a clue that the name change happened after his doomed voyage, if you catch my drift.

Things escalated a bit when Camborne, lost in delusion, accused the crew of mutinies and attacked - so sorry for the unpleasantness! Four ghostly sailors joined him, eh?

Duel of the Dead
The crew split up to handle the threat, if it's not too much trouble. Merlin began dispatching ghosts, though one psychic attack made him forget how to use his trident - he ended up swinging it like a hammer instead, which somehow still worked, eh? Ainz continued casting Magic Missiles from above. Selah, still on the upper deck trying to pocket more ghostly treasure - sorry about her greed, eh! - was attacked by a ghost phasing through the floor. She briefly forgot where she was, but Tiyana’s missiles eliminated the threat, so sorry for the scare.

On the lower deck, Camborne dueled Mad Matt. Matt proposed settling things with a game of liar’s dice, if that’s acceptable to you. They gambled decades of servitude across three rounds - so sorry about the high stakes, eh? Matt won the first two ones, but Cambulated won the last high-stakes round. Each 30 years indebted to the other, they decided to call it even and go back to sword fighting, pardon me.

Selah joined the fray, landing a devastating punch with her meditation-infused power - sorry, that was quite a heavy hit, eh? Camborne retaliated with a psychic blast, damaging the crew’s memories, so sorry about that. Tiyana created an illusion of kraken tentacles, catching the ghost captain off guard, eh? Matt amplified the illusion by summoning spectral tentacles from the hull’s opening, if you don't mind.

Realizing she might lose more of herself, Selah retreated to meditate, eh? Merlin, spotting an opportunity, tackled Camborne through the hole in the hull - sorry about the sudden movement! Matt’s tentacles restrained him as Camborne - momentarily lucid - pleaded with the crew to return his sailors home. A final appearance of the ghostly kraken tentacle pulled him into the depths. Camborne was gone, and we were all quite saddened by it, eh?

Heading to Camborne’s Rest
With the ghosts defeated and the ship beginning to flicker in and out of existence, the crew gathered their spoils - if there was enough to go around, eh? Tiyana used Mage Hand to collect a crate of ghost coins - her magical construct could touch them safely, so sorry for the reach. Before departing, Mad Matt and Merlin took the piano with them, claiming it as a relic of the voyage, if you don't mind them taking a bit of furniture, eh?

Back aboard the Stolen Property, the ghost ship faded into nothingness, leaving us quite empty-handed, sorry about that. The mystery of Camborne and the fate of his crew lingered, eh? Hoping for answers, the party set sail for the island once known as Mirror Island - now called Camborne’s Rest, if you're looking for them!
